Sisi's Wanderdog Holiday to the Brecon Beacons
This September we had the pleasure of taking our Wanderdog Sisi on a very special weekend trip to the Brecon Beacons, Wales. See Lucy and Sisi above abiding by their new home rules!
We arrived late Friday evening to a beautiful cottage, found on Airbnb. After a long car journey from London, the dogs had a great old time searching around all of the rooms, sniffing out all the new and exciting smells of their holiday home. In the morning, we were very pleased to discover that the cottage also had an enclosed garden for the dogs to roam and explore. After some raw breakfast for the dogs, in brain training interactive K9 connectables, we met the farm owner's pet Collies, who were equally interested in their new canine neighbours! We then drove down some very tight welsh country roads to a national car park to start our day's hike.
We ambitiously chose to climb the highest mountain in the Beacons, called Pen y Fan. It wasn't the easiest of hikes, especially a somewhat steep bit just before you reach the top. We also worried the early morning foggy weather, might hinder our ability to see the legendary views! However, once we reached the top we were rewarded with the clouds parting and sun coming out! The scenery was spectacular!
On the way back down, the dogs had a ball running through the grass, where we could safely let them off free (in areas void of sheep - hard to come by!) After our hike, we were all ready for a good rest so popped to Brecon town to a very dog friendly restaurant called 'Bank Bar and Kitchen'. They kindly brought us more water for the dogs, dinner and dog biscuits. The rest of the evening we spent back at our cozy cottage, where the dogs dozed on the sofa in front of the TV.
The next morning we packed up our things and vacated the cottage, but not before finding another fun hike to do with the dogs! We drove to our next destination and trekked up another Welsh mountain. This one, not quite as high, but far muddier! There were still beautiful rolling hills and scenery though, and far less sheep, so the dogs enjoyed even more off lead fun. After the walk, we started our long journey home back to London, but not before stopping off at a country pub called The Crown in Panygelli, Abergavenny - highly recommended, dog friendly and wonderful food!
Overall, the whole weekend was lovely and we hope Sisi enjoyed her time on her holiday, as much as we loved having her!
